Infonex Actively Applies GIS

Infonex applies Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze and report results and visually present the geography of key activities and assets.

  • From 2016 to 2017, we mapped and produced a national GIS shapefile of boundaries for all 490+ MoEST zones, capturing or validating GPS coordinates for hundreds of public schools.
  • Since 2019, using Google Earth imagery and GPS coordinates for schools, Infonex is building a national dataset of travel distances from primary schools to the Teacher Development Centre in their zone, to the district education office, and to their nearest trading center to analyze the significance of school location and remoteness for teacher support and school performance.

Datamaps present tables of data or analysis visually as maps. With datamaps, geographic areas of success or need immediately stand out. Differences between geographic areas on reported results is clear to all users. Infonex values datamaps to best report results that vary geographically.

  • Infonex is currently preparing datamaps of teacher coaching activity by zone for all 34 MoEST districts.
  • In 2020, we produced national and division datamaps of all public primary schools by number of teachers in Standards 1-4.

The Resources Tab provides free access to hundreds of maps and datamaps prepared by Infonex Malawi and available for download. New maps and datamaps are added frequently to this major collection of maps for public access and use.
